Diabetic Foot Care

People with diabetes are prone to many foot problems because of two complications of diabetes: nerve damage (neuropathy) and poor blood circulation (ischaemia). Nerve damage due to high blood sugar causes loss of feeling in a persons feet, removing the ability to feel pain and discomfort, which means that a person may not detect an injury or irritation. Poor circulation in ones feet reduces the ability to heal, causing even a minor cut to become infected and develop an ulcer. An ulcer is an open sore in the skin that may go all the way to the bone.Diabetic feet are a common and serious complication of diabetes and can lead to the loss of a limbs or even death.

Nail Trimming and Care

Correia’s Medical Care Services is happy to provide this non-surgical, non-invasive method for treating ingrown toenails. It gives our patients another option to resolve their ingrown toenails who may be afraid of needles or may just not be suitable candidates for nail surgery.

The Onyfix nail correction system is a versatile and innovative product that enables completely painless treatment of almost all forms of involuted and ingrown toenails. It can also be used in conjunction with non permanent total nail removal to possibly correct damage, deformed toenails and allow them to grow healthier again.

This system is a custom designed mold to properly fit your toenail, which is then brought back into its natural shape as it grows. The whole process is pain-free, during application and throughout the entire treatment!

Because the system works at the rate of your own toenail growth, full treatment is roughly 2-3 applications and may take up to 1 year.

Corn and Callus Management

A corn and callus is an area of hard, thickened skin that commonly occurs across the ball of the foot, on the heel, under the big toe or on top of the small toes.

Manifesting as a skin problem, the formation of a callus is actually due to a problem with the bone or the joint. Calluses are a result of repeated friction and pressure from shoes or the ground. In response to this pressure, the skin thickens and forms a callus.

At a Footcare Place, a Chiropodist can trim your calluses at regular intervals and may prescribe custom-made orthotics to correct the underlying foot problem causing the calluses.

Foot Health Assessments

Our Foot Health Assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of the feet to identify potential issues related to skin, nails, circulation, nerve function, and biomechanics. It is commonly conducted by podiatrists or foot health practitioners to detect conditions such as diabetes-related neuropathy, poor circulation, infections, deformities, or pressure points that may lead to ulcers. Regular assessments help in early detection and prevention of foot problems, ensuring proper treatment and maintenance of overall mobility and comfort.

Preventative education and advice

We focus on empowering individuals with the knowledge and strategies needed to maintain their health and prevent potential issues before they arise. This includes guidance on proper nutrition, exercise, hygiene, posture, and lifestyle choices that reduce the risk of illness or injury. In healthcare settings, professionals provide tailored advice to help manage conditions like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and musculoskeletal problems. By promoting proactive health behaviors, preventative education supports long-term well-being and reduces the need for medical interventions.
